               Elmina Castle

Elmina Castle, around 8 km west of Cape Coast

Elmina Castle was built is 1482 by the Portuguese

During the centuries it became the center for the slave trade (it was known as the slave castle in these days)

It is the earliest known European structure in the tropics

Hundreds of thousands of slaves passed through the dungeons

Nowadays you can only find lizards in there
